Mine is fathom. Understand.
But for Liz Gilbert ( Julia Roberts) ...it's to marvel at things...food! gelato and spaghetti...Italy! After a painful divorce, after realizing that she isn't happy in her marriage and the emptiness of it all is eating her up, she left everything and venture on a new journey to the UNKNOWN. A journey to the "not familiar" places where she is alone and didn't know a single soul. She wants to "find herself" again.
First stop? Rome!Where she practically just tasted everything. Savor the flavor of Italian food but of course with the new friends she made, the experience was simply breathtaking!
If you want to BE here, at this time, at this moment, you have to stop waiting for something to happen...or someone to come. This is what she learned. After watching her partaking every food there is to eat, I couldn't help but smile because I know at one point, I was her. I am a person who appreciates good cooking and Italian food is one of my favorites! To be able to taste all those oregano, basil and Italian spices in one palate? Simply heaven! Freeze!
The sweetness of doing nothing. We shouldn't wait for somebody to tell us that we need the break, and that we deserve it Ruin is a gift and the road to transformation.
But life has to go on. Next stop? The busy and warm streets of India where everything is different. Indian culture is one thing you have to grasp hard. They are so cultivated into their traditions. Sometimes even difficult to accept.
Meditating became a challenge for Liz. But she simply has to learn to let go...and accept things as it is. Stop over-analyzing and stop asking WHY things happened. Learn to forgive. Learn to forgive one self. This is the challenge she has to face.
Then she went back to Bali where she met Felipe ( Javier Bardem). She was just enjoying every moment with Felipe and never thinking that one day, she will find love again. The feeling was mutual but the fear of falling in love and getting her heart broken again was what's holding her back. She doesn't have the luxury at this point. She had come this far and just to stumble once again isn't a risk she is willing to take.
But a friend told her that she needs to live! She needs to cross over and learn to forgive her own realities. And this she did in the end. Happiness isn't a goal nor a destination. We just have to leartn to let go and be free.
